German Shepherd Puppies at Week Four!

Despite the increase in noise this week, the German Shepherd puppies are cuter than ever. They will be receiving their second round of de-worming in a few days and have started lopping up milk out of the bowl. We have also started giving them little bites of meat, which they suck right down.

Bailey is acting more like the German Shepherd she is, getting more active and has playing with the puppies, and also scolding them when they are bothing her!

Bailey, the Mother of These German Shepherds

Here is a picture of Bailey at 9 months old. Bailey was born in Northern California to two attractive German Shepherds. While she doesn't have papers, she sure does look and act like a certified German Shepherd!

Kodi, the Father

Here are a few photos of Kodi, the father of the pups. He is am AKC certified purebred German Shepherd. His lineage traces back to the Monks of New Skete .

German Shepherd Puppies at Weeks Two and Three

This week has gotten a bit more hectic. All of the puppies went and saw the vet and despite a few variences in size, everyone is healthy. They each got their first round of deworming and are sucking down on the bottle like there is no tomorrow!

They are cute, round little fuzzballs now. They bark, stare you right in the eyes, nibble on each other's ears, and are learning how to make a nice mess. They are getting a bit louder, and you really have to tiptoe by so that they don't wake up, looking for food (which they are eating quite a bit of now).

14 growing puppies are very difficult for Bailey to feed, so we are helping her out as much as possible now. We upgraded to a bigger bottle and the puppies just can't get enough! I've noticed that if you pick up the loudest puppies and carry them around for a little, they quiet down a bit. Then, when they get bored they search for milk, sucking on whatever they can find!

German Shepherd Puppies at Week One!

You'd think that having the puppies in our room would keep us up all night, but we slept like babies! All it took was an eye mask, and a pillow over our heads...

The puppies all made it through their first week. Their eyes are closed, their ears have not yet opened, and all they are doing is eating, sleeping, and crying.

Bailey's German Shepherd instincts are serving her well-she is feeding the puppies constantly and keeping everyone happy. With 14 puppies, there are way too many mouths to feed, so we are bottle feeding the puppies. It's a bit crazy, but we are giving each a turn with Bailey and feeding the rest with the bottle or syringes while she does her job.
They are a little weird looking still, and we are excited for them to start playing!

Day One in the Life of 14 New German Shepherd Puppies

The birth went well. In total there were 8 girls and 6 boys. Bailey was acting strange for a day before the birth. She kept going outside, was antsy all day long, and kept us up all night. We woke to her cuddling (which she never does), and I woke up with her lying on my pillow. Basically, that meant something was up. AT 8 30 am, the first puppy came out. He was a big male. Bailey did a great job. She cleaned up everything, chomped off the umbilical cords, and by noon, all 14 puppies were out...and hungry! Here are a few photos, including a shot of the first feeding.
